In my experience, Uconnect can handle detailed voice commands ("play artist xyz") to a USB media device, but not over bluetooth. If anyone is wondering, I greatly prefer having my music collection directly plugged into the USB Uconnect instead of bluetoothing. Then I will decide if I can buy a hardwired USB cradle (proclip) for the phone to connect directly to the Uconnect module or not. I'm testing coworkers' and friends' phones to see which will work as a media device when connected through the Uconnect USB port (my Galaxy S3 is a no go, but I hope the iPhone 6/6+ works). I've done more research and it seems questionable whether certain smart phones can be used as a media device directly connected to the Uconnect through the USB port, but thanks to xsdbs I now know without a doubt that the input into the Uconnect module is a mini-b connector and I greatly appreciate that insight! I haven't been able to put it to a test yet because I'm still in the research phase of this project, but that info will definitely be used!
